Gemma hates her new husband
As daughter of a man in charge of the CIA, Gemma Harrison knows her father is overprotective. She just didn't realize it would go this far. After receiving threats against her increase, her father assigns a body guard she can't stand to protect her. But the worst part is the guise her father wants it done under a fake marriage.
Now, she has to plan a wedding to a man she hates - okay, maybe he's attractive and has a butterfly-inducing Southern accent - but she is only twenty years old! She wasn't expecting to settle down so soon, especially not when she has a crush on her community college's star athlete, Troy. Now that Agent Dixon Black is constantly with her, her dreams of making out in the backseat of Troy's Camaro are completely ruined.
When things get real - both with Dixon and the danger she's in - Gemma is forced to reevaluate her feelings about Dixon, especially when he saves her life. Feelings can't be fake, and Gemma is starting to feel for Dixon Black.

This book is a gentle Young Adult/Coming of Age book which isn't my genre. The focus is on childhood friends, college and "marriage" as a major party or act, not a life commitment. The book illustrates that love is generally a matter of being at the right age, finding someone attractive, and then being in their proximity for copious amounts of time. While there is danger alluded to in the book, there are very, very few instances demonstrating the danger. Most scenes are about the relationship developing. For me, the hero's actions were frequently inconsistent with his age and profession, but the story was told well enough that I ignored the fact that the hero frequently acted as if he were the same age as the heroine. If you like young adult, coming of age stories, you will probably enjoy this book much more than I did.Product details

Another short, sweet read. I didn't think I'd like this when I realized Gemma was 20 and Dixon 35. The author does a great job of making the dialogue and situations believable between them. Dixon is CIA and works for her dad. Someone is threatening Gemma's life in order to get to her dad. Her father comes up with the idea that Dixon should pose as Gemma's fiancee so he can be close to protect her. The story line involving the person after her is weak but the story line between Dixon and Gemma is good. Relax, enjoy and read this book.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
Like many young adults, Gemma thinks her father is over-protective. Well, he is but in her best interest – which is usually the case. What parent doesn’t want only the very best for his/her child?
Her father has the perfect way to look after his daughter when he cannot be with her himself – hire a body guard. OK, well, the story is somewhat familiar, somewhat predictable but in a very appealing way.
This was an easy read that I found myself in the character of the over-protective parent – what parent isn’t over-protective and, of course, we do it in the name of love and the desire for only the best for our child.
This was a very easy read, appealing. The chemistry between Gemma and Dixon is apparent from the very beginning of their meeting.
The story was entertaining, familiar and still interesting. Easy, quick read.

Gemma, the only daughter of a CIA director, is in grave danger. Her father has been getting threats on her life at the office, only she doesn't think things are dire enough to get an undercover bodyguard, her new fiancé Code Blue (codename created by herself and her best friend Gillian). Not all marriages are happy affairs, specially when they are pretend, but Gemma and Dixon turn a dangerous situation into a bearable affair. Great book, love Gemma's personality and how it complements Dixon's instead of being too opposite or too similar.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Everyone thinks Gemma Harrison is a spoiled brat, of course, being the daughter of a CIA VIP, but all she wants to do is get away from her father's overprotective antics. But after getting caught after another attempted escape, her father is certain for her need of a personal bodyguard under the pretense of a fake marriage. And when her fake fiance happens to be Code Blue with his piercing midnight blue eyes and stoic personality, she knows she's in trouble.
Agent Dixon Black is definitely the kind of guy that gets his job done properly, even if it meant he had to babysit a twenty year old Gemma and be her fake fiance, despite their huge age gap. He's unresponsive, cold and definitely not easy to amuse, but he suddenly finds himself smiling when it comes to Gemma.
I love everything about this book, from Gemma and Dixon's relationship, from bouncing between the lines of fascination and often times, dislike, especially with personality clashes. But despite that, these two had chemistry from the very beginning. Gemma's personality is often relatable, she's a character who's somewhat unpredictable at times, especially when she doesn't actually come off as a spoiled brat, but she turns out to be sensible towards things, especially personal beliefs. Also the fact that she likes to read a lot, and at the same time, be a weird fangirl of celebrities. Totally me. Hah! Meanwhile, Dixon's overprotective personality didn't turn out to be overbearing but actually sweet instead. Definitely, he was contradictory to Gemma but the duo turned out to be such a sweet paradox. Everything between them was actually predictable, with the duo trying to deny the feelings surging in them.
I also love almost all the characters in the book, mostly her parents, especially Gemma's mom. It's hilarious how Gemma's parents actually tended to get carried away with the wedding preparations despite being held under false pretenses. The wedding cake, the gown, the pre-nuptial photoshoot. If I didn't know any better, they actually wanted to matchmake the couple.
The ending turned out pretty great, my only complaint being it too short. It's only 175 pages long but a worth it read.
What I'm hoping for right now is a short sequel, or a novella perhaps on the aftermath of Gemma and Dixon's relationship. If Gillian, Gemma's best friend, could get her own book, that would seriously be great, although it seems this book is not part of a series.
I found this book very contrived. There were so many names of movies, songs, movie stars in it, to me it felt like they were forced to make make the character look current. The book certainly won't date well with these. The author tried to make Gemma funny & cute, but it felt so forced. I know the character was young, but she was actually so superficial, instead of that being the role she was supposedly playing. I like a humorous sweet book, but this didn't quite make it. Based on this book I will not buy another book of this authors.
This book is a gentle Young Adult/Coming of Age book which isn't my genre. The focus is on childhood friends, college and "marriage" as a major party or act, not a life commitment.
